Balloting on the approval to proceed with the new project, "Safe Use of Free-Space Optical Communications Systems" closed end-of-business Monday, April 15, 2002. Results of the ballot are as follows:

Total eligible votes received: 34

Approve: 26

Approve with comments: 3

Disapprove with comments: 3

Abstain: 2

In accordance with Z136 Procedures, Appendix A.1(d), "Approval of a new project shall require affirmative votes by at least two-thirds of those voting", by at least a majority of the Committee. Based on the number of total eligible votes received and the number of approval votes received, both criteria have been met.
