With respect to the revision of ASC Z136 Procedures for the Development of American National Standards, I am very pleased to inform you that we received 38 approval/yes votes and 1 abstention on the Committee balloting, easily surpassing the 2/3-response requirement. A breakdown of those voting (with their affiliations) will be included in the annual meeting report. This information was transmitted to ANSI on Friday, December 21st.

Upon my return to the office this morning, I received the following e-mailed copy of correspondence from Jim Thompson at ANSI:

"On behalf of the Executive Standards Committee (ExSC), I am pleased to inform you that the reaccreditation of Accredited Standards Committee Z136, Safe Use of Lasers, under revised Committee operating procedures, has been approved effective December 27, 2001."

Congratulations and thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this revision a reality.
